You’re in Paris ? Are you okay ? Riots etc. ?

Worry about you in Paris… you are in a muddle of historical adventure about money as well

This is lovely and reminded me so much of my life with au pairs. One of them lived with us for 8 years. She still comes to visit (I'm 35 now, with my own kids). The steady presence of these other caretakers was vital as my parents I barely saw during the week. And yes, yes, to money never just being money.

Good morning David. With all sincerity, and like so many other things, it’s not the money - it’s the people. Money may be an enabler, but it comes back to us as people.

Thank you for sharing this essay. The money=love resonates. Jessica— you were so blessed to have Sarah in your life. Beautiful picture.

It was a different situation but my mother was something of a nanny to several of my father’s coworkers’ children from a CPA firm. For 12 hours a day she was with them and she did her best to be a surrogate mother. I was torn between resenting having to share my mother but also thrilled at having kids around my age. Later she talked of how emotionally draining it was.

Some of those kids, now in their 30s, send her Christmas cards every year. Some come back to visit.
