Congratulations! I too often find myself looking over my shoulder, fearful of (what I call it) “the smite”.

I’ve been waiting for this post! What a wonderful way to wake up to the weekend. And for what it’s worth, every time I have a baby I convince myself it’s time for my blessings to run out. How amazing that such tricks of the psyche are so universal.

Mazel tov! So glad Lauren and baby are doing well. What an emotional dichotomy between your mom’s passing and the wedding. The casket names and your response are hilarious.

Hubby’s mom’s name was Jill. I always thought it must have been an unusual name for the year she was born. 1934 I believe.

Congratulations!!!! I’m so happy for your family.

(My personal superstition is that the only way our blessings are taken away from us is if we are ungrateful, which you are not.)

Gratitude is certainly a firm of prayer. Thanks Cici.

Congrats on your granddaughter! Your wife will enjoy clothes shopping for her! I call that feeling you describe as “waiting for the next shoe to drop” - it’s the topic of my next newspaper column and will copy to substack. Enjoy that baby! I have a 7 month old granddaughter Juju… they are the best!

Mazel tov. I am very happy for you and your family. The essay you referenced was my introduction to your essays. I enjoyed your candor, revelations and smart style. Be well.
